T-Series plans aggressive marketing for Om Shanti Om

The music industry is certainly on a high note in Bollywood. Increasing numbers of large films have been announced and one of the biggest and most awaited films of 2007 is Shah Rukh Khan’s home production, Om Shanti Om. It was recently reported that T-Series had acquired the rights to the music. Now comes the big question on the terms of the deal. We have learned through reliable sources and an insider was overheard saying, “It’s true that T-Series has acquired the audio rights for OmShanti Om. The deal has happened at a figure between 4 to 5 crores and the company plans to promote the music very aggressively”.

The film directed by Farah Khan has music by Vishal-Shekhar with some arrangements made by yesteryear music director Pyarelal of the Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo. The major highlight of the film is a song that features almost the entire present day and (even the) yesteryear film industry people playing themselves. The last time one saw something like this was in Manmohan Desai’s Naseeb. Farah, however, promises to make this experience bigger and better.

T-Series is currently the biggest player in the Indian music industry and is planning innovative ways to market Om Shanti Om, including a big activation on the digital medium. Its upcoming lineup of film includes big names like Bhool Bhuliya, Welcome, God Tussi Great Ho, Showbiz, Taare Zameen Par, Bhootnath and the Ghajini remake

Shilpa Shetty in a major legal hassle

Shilpa Shetty is in legal trap. A London law firm has sued Shilpa’s company Cine Entertainment for not clearing their dues. A security company called CTR services is also planning to sue her on non payment of bills as they had provided security services to Shilpa in the UK sometime backs.

According to the reports, Shilpa has also been dropped from famous publicist Max Clifford's client list due to conflicts with Max’s employees. However, her representative in the UK, Farnath Hussain informs that her company Cine Entertainment has already paid every penny that they owe. Their payment got delayed because the figures CTR submitted were not right and her company asked them to rework on it.

Recently, she was allegedly linked up with her “good friend” and producer Raj Kundra. Kundra’s wife Kavita openly accused Shilpa Shetty in media for breaking their marriage. It seems that success has its side effects and Shilpa is going through the rough side of it now.

Nadiadwala's son bashes up Riteish Deshmukh

Subhaan is the leader of a children’s gang in the film. According to Sajid Khan, this particular scene has never been seen in a Hindi film before. Bobby Deol to play Bihari tramp in Chamkoo

Sometimes the casting of a film in our film industry turns up to be as interesting as the film itself, if not more. Director Kabeer Kaushik had meant to cast Bobby Deol in his debut film Sehar. But Bobby wasn't prepared to go into the dark territory of crime and law-enforcement in Bihar. So he said no.

The role of cop battling boorishness in the backyards of Bihar went to Arshad Warsi who Bobby admits, did a brilliant job.

Fast-forward to three years later. Kabeer Kaushik is all set to make a strangely titled film called Chamkoo about the journey of a Bihari youth into Mumbai's underworld. And this time Bobby is all set to take the plunge into the dark regions of the human heart.

Would Bobby's makeover as a Bihari vagabond be as complete as Saif Ali Khan's transformation into the uncouth Meerut-bossy in Omkara?

"I don't know about that," chuckles Bobby. "I don't think Kabeer Kaushik's film has to do that much with Bihar. My character moves to Mumbai pretty early in the script. Actually, Kabeer had come to me with Sehar. But at that time I had a psychological block about new directors. I know that's strange considering my brother Sunny has worked with the maximum number of new directors. But today I've the confidence to move away from my rich-boy image and attempt something dark grim at the grassroot level."

Bobby's confidence level has been on the upswing ever since he played the jealous musician in Suneel Darshan's Shaka Laka Boom Boom.

"I guess it provoked me into exploring the dark region of my personality. Even my latest film Naqaab pretty much explores the grey side. I think Kabeer Kaushik's film will take me further down that unlit road. At this stage of my career its fun to explore unpredictable characters. I'm rather tired of playing the suave rich character."

Whether Bobby will cut his long-flowing hair for Kaushik's film or incorporate it into his character, he doesn't know.

The tight-lipped Kaushik is working on a special look for Bobby.

'Apne' writer to direct Sunny

Encouraged by the feedback he received for his work in APNE, writer Neeraj Pathak has decided to turn film producer and also direct the film. Together with Krishan Choudhary, Neeraj has floated a film production company – Icon Pictures P. Ltd. – and has decided to make a film starring Sunny Deol in the lead.

“It’s a thriller,” Neeraj tells me, “We plan to start its shooting in the first week of September and wrap up the entire shooting by October/November.” Neeraj is in the process of finalizing the balance star cast [and also the title] at the moment.

Sajid denies rumors

The normally joke-cracking and easy-going Sajid Khan gets serious the moment you ask him if his new outing HEYY BABYY is a remake of the Hollywood hit THREE MEN AND A BABY. “Sure, there are three men and a baby in my film, but the similarities end there. My film is not THREE MEN AND A BABY,” he clarifies instantly.

Please continue. “The three men in my story are a reflection of what I am in real life. I’ve incorporated my habits/traits in the three male leads [enacted by Akshay, Fardeen, Ritesh]. HEYY BABYY is completely different from any of the films you’ve seen so far. It’s as much THREE MEN AND A BABY as PATCH ADAMS was MUNNABHAI M.B.B.S.,” he states.

Meanwhile, not many are aware that HEYY BABYY stars as many as 21 [yes, you read that right!] leading ladies of Bollywood. Of course, Vidya Balan enacts the principal lead, but as many as 20 actresses feature in the film as well, 14 of them appearing in one song alone [‘Ishq Mohabbat Pyaar Ki Baatein’].

Priyanka to celebrate birthday after years

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Shot at 2007-07-13

Priyanka Chopra, the current flavour of Bollywood, turns 25 on July 18 and this year, for the first time, she is planning to throw a party for her family and close friends.

This is the first time the actress is throwing a party on her birthday since she has joined Bollywood.

"That's true. I've never had any kind of party ever since I came into this industry. Friends keep teasing me about it. I'm not a party person. Believe it or not, I'm shy of crowds. Also, the past few years have hardly given me reason to feel like celebrating," says Priyanka, whose voice gets distant as she recalls her father's serious illness.

"Yeah, I'm having a birthday party for the first time. Not a huge one. Just 40-50 close friends and family. That's all.

"I can't believe how much time has passed. I'm suddenly feeling old. Seriously. Professionally, I've no reason to complain. At home we've gone through some turbulent times. Hopefully, we're out of it," she said.

Priyanka's brother Siddharth also turns a year older this week.

'Halla Bol' based on Safdar Hashmi: Santoshi

Director Rajkumar Santoshi says his latest film "Halla Bol" is inspired by murdered theatre activist Safdar Hashmi and urges people to raise their voice against injustice.

"'Halla Bol' means attack and the film says that one must not take injustice lying down. I am not advocating violence in my film but talking about raising our voice against injustice," Santoshi told IANS in an e-mail interview.

The film will be released some time in August and stars Ajay Devgan, Pankaj Kapur and Vidya Balan in important roles.

Most of Santoshi's films are inspired by reality. And this one is no different. It is based on the late Safdar Hashmi - who was killed by political goons while trying to stage the play "Halla Bol" in Delhi in 1989.

Santoshi has made films like "Family", "Khakee", "The Legend of Bhagat Singh", "Lajja", "Pukar" and "China Gate".

"I have always followed my heart, instinct and conscience and made movies. At this point of time, I am awaiting the response to 'Halla Bol'. I have made it with great love and affection," the director said.

Choreographers Bosco-Caesar go international

Choreographers Bosco-Caesar are going the international way. They recently choreographed international pop star Christina Aguilera for an advertisement for a cola company. The video was shot in Jaipur and directed by Tarsem Singh. Tarsem Singh has earlier directed The Cell starring Jennifer Lopez.

According to Caesar, they were extremely excited to work with the Pop Diva. She was extremely professionally. Apparently, it was a very good experience as everything was properly organized.

The ad has men fantasizing about Christina and how she appears in front of them. It may be recalled that Bosco-Caesar ripped off Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie for Sushmita Sen in Zindaggi Rocks.

Urvashi Sharma's sister to enter Bollywood

We recently showed you a picture of Naqaab’s lead actress Urvashi Sharma and her sister who looked pretty much alike. Well now, if Urvashi is to be believed, her sister too has set her sights on Bollywood. “Yes, my sister will also enter the film industry very soon”, said she.

Though she did not divulge much about her sister’s foray into filmdom we came to know that there is only a one year difference between the two and that her name is Sucheta Sharma.

Looks like Urvashi will be facing competition from her own sibling in the year to come.

Vikram Phadnis signs Tabu for his directorial debut

Ace costume designer Vikram Phadnis who of late designed costumes for Salaam-E-Ishq and Namastey London has finally zeroed down on the leading lady for his film.

Vikram who has been planning to start his directorial venture since a while was earlier planning to rope in Madhuri Dixit for his film. However, things didn’t seem to work out between them. Vikram has therefore moved on and has now signed Tabu as the leading lady for his film.

Phadnis says that Tabu has been a good friend since a while. In fact, she always kept pushing him to direct a film. Besides, Vikram’s is a heroine centric film and a highly emotional subject and looking at Tabu’s potential to handle such subjects, she is surely a great choice.

Vikram says that Tabu fits in the script that he has and she agreed to do the film within ten secs of narration

The music of Cash worth the money

There was a time [around a decade or more back] when good music was primarily associated with love stories or family dramas. Neither the film makers made an extra effort nor 'aam junta' had major expectations from listening to something that could qualify as a chartbuster from the musical score of a hardcore action movie.

But not anymore!

Films like 'Mohra', 'Kaante', 'Musafir', 'Dhoom' franchise and last but not the least, 'Dus', changed the trend as at least of couple of major foot tapping tracks [read item numbers], became a basic requirement for an action film to be promoted aggressively. Not just these tracks were used for eye candy purpose, they were also used for promoting the action sequences of the film while playing in the background of the razor sharp promos. 'Mast Mast' [Mohra], 'Rama Re' [Kaante], 'Ishq Kabhi Kariyo Naa' [Musafir], 'Dhoom Machale' [Dhoom], 'Dhoom Again' [Dhoom 2], 'Dus Bahane' and 'Deedar De' [Dus] are some of the examples that immediately come to one's mind.

This is why the score of 'Cash' is expected to be special with expectation being pretty high, if not sky high. Reasons are aplenty.

First and foremost the film belongs to action genre which gives it's composer duo of Vishal and Shekhar ample opportunity to go wild in a way only they can.

Secondly, the film has eye candy in the form of Shamita Shetty, Dia Mirza and Esha Deol which means ready ammunition waiting to explode if there are right ingredients in place to make them dance to the beats.

Thirdly, the film brings together Anubhav Sinha and Vishal-Shekhar after 'Dus' (they did have a 'qawalli' in 'Tathastu' though). Nothing works like a tried and tested combination!

Fourthly, on checking the credit details one realizes that Vishal Dadlani is present throughout the album in the capacity of a singer. Well, he has sung a song or two in his earlier albums too but an entire soundtrack is a first! In fact except for a solo track by Panchhi Jalonvi, Vishal also writes the remaining tracks.

So without waiting any further, one jumps into 'Cash' with the volume being raised to the maximum possible.

It was not a bad choice after all to have pumped up the volume since the opening track 'Cash' has just about everything that one expects from Vishal Shekhar when they are in the mood to go unconventional and create a new sound. An out and out western track with elements of rap-n-reggae thrown in good measure for creating a rocking feel, 'Cash' is sung by both Vishal and Shekhar. What impresses further is Sunidhi Chauhan who modulates her voice once again and makes a smashing entry by taking the song to a different level altogether.

An item song that is expected to play in the opening title rolls, 'Cash' follows the theme of the movie as it talks about how 'cash' makes the life go around. Another version of the song comes later with the sound of a hovering helicopter in the background creating an action feel.

R.D. Burman would have been proud today on hearing 'Naa Puchho' as it is a homage to the maestro's style of composing a melody. Vishal-Shekhar keep the feel of the late 70s/early 80s intact but while doing so they add on their own bit of the technology available in 21st century and create a smashing impact out of 'Naa Puchho'. Hear the manner in which fast forward technique is used (or has Vishal actually sung it that fast?) to make the opening words of 'Naa Puccho' flow rapidly and you would know what we mean!

While Vishal continues to have fun with innovation being the key mantra, Sunidhi Chauhan follows the path of melody set for her. Be rest assured that when the song will appear on the screen, it is bound to be a rage.

The same cannot be said though for 'Zara Bachke' which is coming together of hip-hop, rap, reggae and bhangra-pop! In short, a mix of just about everything that makes for an item number. While lyrically there isn't much that registers an impact (at least in the first couple of hearings), even the rendition (mainly in Punjabi) is just about ok with the much required punch missing in the proceedings. One doubts if the song would have a full fledged appearance in the film since the song doesn't have much scope outside the music video circuits.

There is an extended musical piece that comes at the beginning of 'Reham Kare' before Sunidhi Chauhan comes into the scene. The dark-n-sensuous-haunting mood comes close to the style that was adopted in 'Aaj Ki Raat' [Don] but the similarity just ends here. Overall 'Reham Kare' written by Panchhi Jalonvi has the 80s style disco arrangements filling in the space between the 'antaras' even as music continues to change its flavor with regularity throughout it's 5 minutes duration. Meanwhile Vishal does his trademark take as a back ground voice by mainly singing along in English.

Unlike the title song and 'Naa Puchho', 'Reham Kare' is not an instant winner in the very first listening and also doesn't have long enough legs to reach to the top. Nevertheless, glitzy choreography would ensure that the tune does get it's due with the combination of style and rhythm ensuring decent eyeballs.

On the other hand 'Naughty Naughty' is a song that makes you wonder why is it not on the tube yet? Yet another track that takes it's inputs from the R.D. Burman school of music, 'Naughty Naughty' is indeed naughty, especially due to the way Anushka Manchanda goes about singing it. After 'Golmaal Golmaal', Vishal-Shekhar and Anushka come together yet again and the magic is visible.

With mix of Hindi and English lyrics creating an ideal mood for some naach-gaana-thumka, 'Naughty Naughty' is perhaps one of the rare dance numbers that are western in arrangements and yet so rooted and earthy in appeal. The backup male voice along with chorus only add on to make 'Naughty Naughty' a number that would be played long after the movie is off the theaters. A winner!

Taking over from where 'Deedar De' [Dus] left, 'Mindblowing Maahiya' can easily qualify as yet another dance hit for Shamita Shetty after 'Baras Jaa' [Fareb]. Sunidhi Chauhan is good as always and gets just the right punch in place whenever the key words 'Mindblowing Mahiya' are heard. The song may not boast of fast pace or elaborate musical arrangements but it is an overall packaging, rythm and the tune's base in Indian melody that makes 'Mindblowing Mahiya' a song that is bound to set your feet tapping. The item song is out on the telly and if the initial response is anything to go by, the number is expected to scale the charts in just a few days to come.

The idea behind creating 'Cash' is simple i.e. to create 5-6 tunes that keep the adrenalin flow intact as one takes a break from action sequences. The score was required to match the high tech action and some unbelievable stunts and from that perspective the synopsis was good enough for Vishal and Shekhar to create tunes that would ensure that coupled with good visuals, the soundtrack keeps you hooked on to the screens.

You have seen the title song and 'Mindblowing Maahiya' to be aware about 'Cash'. Now watch out for 'Naughty Naughty' and 'Naa Puchho' and you would surely have your hands full.

Bipasha has a ball in Lisbon post Seven Wonders show

Although there was a major crisis on stage Bipasha had herself a whale of a time in Lisbon. Just one regret. "John who's shooting in Pondicherry couldn't watch me at the Seven Wonders of the World Show. There was no electricity where he was. But I'll make him see the entire experience on a DVD."

The Teleprompters ceased to work during the Seven Wonders show in Lisbon. "The teleprompters conked out during rehearsal itself. We never thought it wouldn't work during the show. Then during the event the Teleprompters came on and just disappeared. It came on. I started reading. But then representatives from various countries walked by in front of the tele-prompters, so we couldn't see what was written, just had to go by my memory. Then it just went off! We had to read out from a paper. But my co-hosts Sir Ben and Hillary Swank were so good we managed without them. Somehow we pulled our segment through. I hope I managed well. The three of us laughed and had so much fun."

When the Taj was announced Bipasha was in seventh heaven. "The envelope announcing the Taj Mahal was with me. Everyone was so happy. Sir Ben is half Indian you know. His real name is Krishna. His great grandfather was Gujarati. He was really nice to me. So was Hillary Swank. We had so much fun."

Bipasha has made friends for life. "Hillary Swank and Sir Ben Kingsley are friends for life. I plan to keep in touch with them."

Then there was pop star Chaka Khan. "She was wonderful. I made everyone call me 'Basu' with a big pout. During the entire trip everyone would go 'Basooo Basooo' with a big pout. With that Basu thing going, no one could forget me at the event. They didn't know who I was. But everyone wanted to know who I was. The attention and appreciation was a big high. The whole experience was a dream come true."

Sighs Bipasha, "I'm exhausted. I did the Seven Wonders show, then I partied all night in Lisbon and took a flight back to Mumbai. I haven't had a chance to breathe. I landed in Lisbon on the 5th without my luggage and left on the 8th afternoon. It was a whirlwind tour."

Shahrukh Khan's got a new haircut!

Not only has King Khan lost oodles of weight, he's got a new, messy haircut too!

Just what's happening to all our stars! After Kareena Kapoor, John Abraham and several other actors, Shah Rukh Khan too seems to be aiming for size 0. King Khan had already lost most of the flab for his character in 'Don', but now it seems he is losing even more weight, add to that his new messy haircut (which, we must admit, makes him look quite yummy!).

Well, new look or not, the actor has certainly not lost his star appeal abroad. Khan fever swept the UK as thousands of dedicated fans queued for many hours to get a glimpse and chance to meet their favourite star at the fourth Asian Lifestyle Show in Olympia, London. Not even the UK's biggest sports weekend, Wimbledon tennis finals, the British F1 Grand Prix, Tour de France, live earth concert and all the road closures around London, could put people off coming to see the King Khan.

His fans got the opportunity to get up close and personal as he signed autographs, appeared on the two huge stages at the venue, charmed and inter-acted with the crowds, enacted his favourite film dialogues from his recent blockbuster 'DON', a scene from 'Devdas', and even sung a few lines from his all time favourite movie 'Dilwale Dulhania...' .

Any doubts now as to why he's still Bollywood's Badshah!

Editor of GURU for GANDHI MY FATHER

If soon to be released GANDHI MY FATHER promises to be a film that could well meet international standards then let's not only pat the backs of producer Anil Kapoor, director Feroz Abbas Khan and actors Akshaye Khanna and Darshan Jariwala. That's because the film is also notable for it's editor Sreekar Prasad.

For the uninitiated, Sreekar is the guy who has been associated with none other than Mani Ratnam for many a films now. Beyond editing his biggest Bollywood hit till date, GURU, Sreekar has also run his scissors through YUVA, SAATHIYA, ASOKA, DIL CHAHTA HAI and FIZA amongst others.

Though his last work DELHII HEIGHTS got him a lot of flak since it hardly boasted of any mastery in the editor's room, GANDHI MY FATHER should well be the film that should be able to restore his super-editor status.

Himesh's final resolve: 3 films in first round

Now that AAP KAA SURROOR has worked at the box-office, Himesh Reshammiya has finally made a firm resolution. The music composer turned singer turned actor has decided to concentrate on three films as an actor, besides the sequel to A.K.S., in the first year.

Ever since the release of the film, acting offers have been pouring incessantly, but Himesh hasn’t picked up any project so far. Besides acting in those projects, Himesh would also be singing and composing music of those films. In simple words, it means Himesh wouldn’t be accepting any other assignment as music composer/singer/actor, other than these films.

Also, there’ll be a sufficient gap between AAP KAA SURROOR and his next film, so that the craze to watch HR on the big screen will build up again. Sure, Himesh is making the right moves, instead of falling to temptations.

Sanjay Dutt plays marriage counsellor for buddy

Mumbai, July 11 (IANS) Sanjay Dutt, who is seeing marriage on the cards for himself, has worked out a rapprochement between his buddy Sanjay Gupta and Gupta's estranged wife Anu.

The reconciliation had long been eluding the lovelorn Gupta only because of his wife's reluctance to accept his changed stance on marriage and commitment... until Dutt stepped in.

On the day "Shootout at Lokhandwala" producer Gupta's autobiographical flick "Alibaug" was launched, Dutt had a chat with Anu for about an hour. That, apparently, has done the trick.

Gupta's wife is finally thawing.

Gupta, immersed in directing a huge cast of friends posing as actors on the set of "Alibaug", admits it's Dutt who has done the seemingly impossible.
